Why Restore Instead of Replace

Six Reasons Homeowners Choose Restoration

Lower Cost Than New

Refinishing a solid wood table or reupholstering a chair frame is typically less expensive than buying a comparable new piece, especially for older, well-built furniture.

Your Colors, Your Fabric

You pick the paint color, wood stain, and upholstery fabric. Nothing leaves our shop until it matches what you had in mind.

Less in the Landfill

Furniture with a solid frame can usually be repaired and refinished rather than discarded. Restoration keeps usable materials in circulation.

Traditional Techniques

Hand-applied stains, brushed lacquers, and hand-tied springs. We repair loose joinery before any finish goes on, not just cosmetically over it.

Pieces With History

Family dressers, grandmother's dining chairs, a desk that has moved four times with you. We work carefully with furniture that carries meaning.

Local Pickup & Delivery

We arrange pickup and delivery across the Chicago area, so you don't need a truck or a free weekend to get your furniture to us.

What We Do With Your Furniture

Wood Refinishing

Old stripped tabletops, water rings, and cloudy lacquer are common problems on solid wood furniture, and most of them can be corrected. We strip the existing finish down to bare wood, repair any loose joints or veneer lifting, then sand through several grits before applying stain and a hand-rubbed topcoat. You choose the tone, from a light natural oil to a deep espresso stain, and we test it on a hidden area first so there are no surprises.

Cabinet & Furniture Repainting

Painted finishes let a tired piece take on an entirely new personality. We prep every surface with sanding and a bonding primer, then apply chalk paint, milk paint, or a durable cabinet-grade enamel depending on how the piece will be used. Hardware can be replaced or restored, and we offer a light distressing option if you want the piece to look gently worn rather than brand new.

Reupholstering Chairs & Sofas

We strip old fabric and padding down to the frame, check the springs and webbing, replace foam where it has gone flat, and rebuild the seat before the new fabric goes on. Bring your own fabric or choose from our supplier books, which include performance weaves, linens, and velvets in a wide range of colors and patterns.

Cabinet Restoration

Kitchen cabinets, china hutches, and built-ins often just need surface attention rather than replacement. We repair drawer boxes, re-glue loose face frames, adjust doors that no longer sit flush, and refinish or repaint the exterior. It is frequently a more affordable path than a full cabinet replacement, particularly when the cabinet boxes themselves are still structurally sound.

A Look at the Work

Before & After, In Brief

Every project starts with an honest look at what a piece needs, then moves through repair, finish, and fabric. The full gallery has more detail on each transformation.
